No Need To Worry As Expected
This is the reply to a mail sent to the radio station that reported the Steven quitting story:
"Have no fear
It was reported
His daughter Mia
Said he would retire
After the next album
It wont happen ..........
He'll keep rockin
Screamin scott"
Joe Perry Mention In Liner Notes Of Fleetwood Mac Album

VH1's The List
On yesterday's episode of 'The List' on VH1 Aerosmith's Dream On was
chosen as the 2nd best Rock Anthem Of All Time. The comedian who voted for them introduced them as "the guys who probably invented pot" and gave a pretty good defense on why Dream On is the best anthem.
Horrible News If True. Most Likely Only Bullshit
WRIF 101.1 FM in Detroit has reported that Steven
Tyler has decided to leave Aerosmith after the
completion of the next studio album. The reason
stated is that he is retiring from the music business.
Hopefully he will change his mind. If not, the
Japan dates will be Aerosmith's last with Tyler as
lead singer....
Maybe this will shed some light as it looks like this may be where the radio
report is from. This was posted to AOL and is from the NY Post. Wishful
thinking on the part of a daughter who thinks 50 something is too old to
rock? Sorry...unless he's changed a lot, it doesn't sound like Steven to me
and I tend to think along the lines of the "Columbia Records spy":
"WILL the next album be Aerosmith's last? Mia Tyler, 20, daughter of frontman
Steven, tells PAGE SIX that her dad will likely hang up his scarves when the
next record is completed. "I think it'll be the last one," she said at the
opening of the Broadway City video arcade, adding, "He's going to be 52 next
year." A Columbia Records spy says it's hooey: "Steve'll rock his brains out
'til he's dead." Mia, an aspiring rocker herself, says she'll be
singing with her pop on the next CD and she's looking to put together a band
of her own. The plus-size model then beat us in three games of Gunblade."
_____________________________
Let's review the facts:
1. Radio station in Detroit, out of the blue, reports that Steven has
decided to retire after the next album, and the Japanese dates will be his
last. As far as I know, they cite no sources.
2. On the same day the NY Post prints a tidbit about Mia which quotes her as
saying:
""I think it'll be the last one," she said at the opening of the Broadway
City video arcade, adding, "He's going to be 52 next year." Now, note the
"I think" - those are keywords. SHE thinks...that's her opinion of the
subject. Gee though, wonder where the above radio station got the basis for
their report...even if they didn't quite report it right?;)
3. Mia has gone on record in the past disapproving of the way her Dad
conducts himself on stage.
4. In same NY Post Tidbit, a "Columbia Records spy says it's hooey:
'Steve'll rock his brains out 'til he's dead.'" I'll forgive this person for
calling him "Steve" and not "Steven" this time.;) This is more in-line with
everything that Steven has said over, and over, and over in interviews for at
least as long as I've been a fan.
5. Release an album and not tour on it? This band? I think not.
6. The Sony Contract.
7. No one's found any confirmation of the radio report elsewhere. If this
had been announced it would be all over by now...at least in Boston.;)
8. Remember all the "Steven's back on drugs!" allegations reported by the
press in 1996 and how "true" they were?
9. LOL...now Steven's probably going to rock forever just to prove to his
daughter that he can.;)
(The things above was said, written, by Lynn and it sure seems like she's right. I feel much better now and I hope you do too - C.E)

Aerosmith On The ABC New Years Eve Show?
I don't know how true this is but here is a copy of a new report I received.
It states they will show live performances on NYE with Aerosmith listed as one
of the performers. Here's a copy.
ABC will welcome the New Year with a show starting at 5 a.m. ET, Dec. 31, from Time Square Studios.
It will feature performances by Billy Joel, live from Madison Square Garden; Aretha Franklin, Enrique Iglesias, Sting and Andrea Bocelli from the Jacob Javits Center in N.Y.; 'N Sync from Disney World in Orlando; and Barry Manilow live from Foxwoods Casino in Conn. Also Neil Diamond, live from Colorado; Aerosmith live from Osaka; Bonnie Raitt, live from San Raphael; and Ray Charles. Natalie Merchant will perform a special version of ``Kind and Generous'' as a tribute to the female performers of the century. Annie Lennox will perform live from the Millennium Dome in Greenwich, England, Jean-Michel Jarre from the Pyramids in Cairo, and the Manic Street Preachers live from Cardiff, Wales.
Black Crowes/Jimmy Page - Not Directly Aerosmith Related
This was found in an article at www.musicnewswire.com:
"Sources say that Angelus and Bill Curbishley, manager for Jimmy Page, are
in discussions regarding a live Black Crowes/Jimmy Page album and summer
2000 tour."
Now, this is a long shot, but this live album could include either "You
Shook Me" and/or "Oh Well" [which feature Joe Perry] live from the Worcester
Centrum from Saturday, October 16th. I sure hope so!
New Release Date For the Run DMC album "Crown Royal"
Also, the Run DMC album "Crown Royal" which may OR MAY NOT include Steven
and Joe on a remake of "It's Tricky" has yet another release date. It's
moved from Tuesday, November 16th, 1999 to Tuesday, January 25th, 2000!

Clips - The New Aerosmith Homevideo
What I've heard about Clips is that it's a poor video of Aerosmith tunes
put to available Aerosmith footage - mainly reworking of available video
footage.
I gather a number of Aerosmith fans have been too keen on what
they've received as I think they expected a video of the recent
Aerosmith Nine Lives videos. At 11.99 you have to be sensible that its not going
to be this and its not on Columbia/Sony. Not sure what Columbia/Sony
think.
Name Of The Japanese Tour
I gather the tour of Japan is going under the title "The Roar of the
Dragon".
I wonder if this means it will have a special set for it as I expect
they've retired the Nine Lives stage set. Maybe I'm reading too much
into the name.
Like the Chinese, the Japanese have a 12 year cycle with an aniaml
signifying the year. At the moment, I believe its the year of the rabbit
but next, it will be year of the dragon.
Bob Marley Tribute Postponed In Japan Again
The Bob Marley tribute album was postponed in Japan again. Looks like we
are moving out to a November release as per USA.

More On Ringo Starr's "I Wanna Be Santa Claus"!
I have an update to the info I posted about the new Ringo Starr christmas
album "I Wanna Be Santa Claus" which was released on Tuesday, October
19th on Mercury Records. Well, I said that Joe Perry only played on the
track "Pax Um Biscum (Peace Be With You)." Well, he does play Electric
Guitar on that song. But, he also does the guitar solo on the track
"Christmas Time Is Here Again." Now, "Christmas Time Is Here Again" is of
course a remake of the Beatles classic "Christmas Time Is Here Again!" which
was first released on a fan club flexi-disc on December 15, 1967 to the U.S.
members of The Official Beatles Fan Club. Now, Ringo has remade it with
Joe!
The Eagles' Timothy B. Schmit also guests on this new Xmas album on the
song's "I Wanna Be Santa Claus", "The Little Drummer Boy", and
"White Christmas." Now, Timothy of course sang with Steven Tyler on the
track "La De Da" on Ringo Starr's 1998 album "Vertical Man."
Also all over this album [just like "Vertical Man"] is Mark Hudson. Now,
Mark has co-written six Aerosmith songs over the years ("Livin' On The
Edge", "Gotta Love It", "Fall Together", "The Farm", "Crash", "Kiss Your Past Goodbye"].

Boston Globe 10/18/99. Crowes, Page, Perry Review
MUSIC REVIEW
Page, Jones bring a little Zep to town
By Steve Morse, Globe Staff, 10/18/99
WORCESTER - A pair of Led Zeppelin alumni were on the loose this weekend. First came John Paul Jones's masterful instrumental boogie at the Paradise, then the more gut-busting boogie of Jimmy Page with the Black Crowes in Worcester, joined by Aerosmith's Joe Perry for a couple of songs that sent air guitarists to heaven and beyond.
If you caught both shows, then you know the greatness that Page and Jones still bring to the stage. It's a shame they're not playing together anymore - Jones wasn't invited on the Zep-rooted Page and Plant tours - but at least they gave Zep fans a special treat, and more memories, this weekend.
Any brain cells left out there? Well, probably not if you caught the Page/Crowes slamfest at the Worcester Centrum Centre (attended by 11,500 fans) on Saturday. This was a hammer-down night of guitar-crunch from the start. Page has joined the rebel-rocking Crowes for just a three-city tour, but it's his way of returning to his acid-blues roots with a vengeance. The Crowes rock hard, but Page went further by schooling them with an edgy ferocity that, along with an outstanding effort by Crowes singer Chris Robinson (emulating Robert Plant's banshee wailing), evoked serious memories of an early Led Zeppelin show.
The song list was 75 percent Zeppelin - more than anticipated. And there was no slack to be found. How about these Zeppelin segues: the lacy ''In My Time of Dying'' into ''Your Time I s Gonna Come'' (with a soulful Hammond B3 line from the Crowes' Eddie Harsch); and a slashing ''Nobody's Fault But Mine'' into a punkish ''Heartbreaker'' to end the main set.
Need more? How about for encores the mandolin-flecked ''Hey, Hey, What Can I Do'' into the erotic ''Whole Lotta Love'' and the famed Zep cover of ''You Shook Me'' (with Perry making his first appearance, sporting his newly coiffed GQ haircut, though it obviously hasn't changed his low-down-and-dirty guitar sound). And then a show-ending romp through ''Oh Well'' (penned by early Fleetwood Mac guitarist Peter Green), which found Page and Perry duel ing toe-to-toe in a blistering battle that went on and on into the stratosphere. (I had seen Page and Perry jam once at a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame event, but never with this intensity.) They jousted on rhythm, they swapped leads, and they and the crowd were completely drained at the end.
Page was out the whole night with the Crowes - and it was like adding TNT to an already combustible mix. Page lent guitar heft to several Crowes tunes (''Remedy'' blazed forth, as did their cover hit of Otis Redding's ''Hard to Handle''). Other covers during this tumultuous night: the low-fi funk of Little Walter's ''Mellow Down Easy'' and Elmore James's synapse-shredding ''Shake Your Moneymaker.'' Whew. If you're a rock fan and missed this show, then hang your head and cry.
At the Paradise on Friday, Jones displayed his continued expertise, though this was just his first solo tour. To chants of ''Jonesy'' and ''J.P.,'' he crisply delved into tracks from his well-named new instrumental CD, ''Zooma,'' aided by Chapman stick player Nick Beggs, who added otherworldly sounds.
Jones switched effortlessly from bass and pedal steel to a custom, triple-necked guitar used during a polyrhythmic, bluegrassy number. Oh yes, and he did three Zep tunes: ''No Quarter,'' ''Trampled Under Foot,'' and a magnificent ''Black Dog.'' There was no Page in sight, but Jones showed that he doesn't need him or anyone else to sustain his brilliance.
This story ran on page C01 of the Boston Globe on 10/18/99.

Joe Perry played with Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes!!
Joe Perry joined Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes at their concert at the Worcester Centrum!!
Before the show someone talked to a security guard and he said Joe Perry and Steven Tyler were in town for the Sox game and there was a possibility of one or both of them coming down, which happened...
Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes played a great deal of Zeppelin and Crowes tunes, along with some blues classics. They also performed a beautiful version of the Yardbirds' classic "Shapes of Things".
But, the energy level went to 11 when Chris Robinson introduced a "special guest", Joe Perry!! They did the Led Zeppelin song "You Shook Me" and then an incredible version of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac's "Oh Well".
Jimmy, Joe, and Rich Robinson wailed and left the audience freaking out.
If anyone recorded this PLEASE email me!

Aerosmith and NASCAR Driver Kenny Wallace
The Racing driver and Aerosmith fan Kenny Wallace will be driving a Aerosmith Car on November 7th at the Phoenix International Raceway in the Duralube 500!!!
There will also be die cast replicas of the car available.
Here is a quote from Kenny:
"It's like a dream come true for me to have Aerosmith on my car. I mean, what race car driver wouldn't want to have America's greatest rock band on their car? My favorite Aerosmith song is "Living on the Edge." Well, at Phoenix, I'm going to be driving on the edge."

On Nov. 7 at Phoenix International Raceway, Christmas comes early for NASCAR Winston Cup Series driver Kenny Wallace. When the green flag waves for the Dura Lube 500, Wallace will be piloting a black and silver Square D Chevrolet in a tribute to his favorite band - Aerosmith.
"Ever since I was a little kid, I loved their music," said the 36-year-old Wallace. "Back in '93 when I was racing at Michigan, I heard they were coming to The Palace in Detroit. So, I went and saw them. They were awesome. When they came to Charlotte later that year, I got backstage passes and met all the guys in the band.
"Brad Whitford, the acoustic player, always liked racing, so we really hit it off. Ever since then, we've been really good friends. He lives in Massachusetts, and whenever he's not off touring somewhere, he comes to the New Hampshire races and parks his motorhome next to mine. He's a lot of fun."
The idea to incorporate Aerosmith onto Wallace's Square D Chevrolet stemmed from NASCAR's summer concert series - NASCAR Rocks. When NASCAR Rocks was originally introduced, the idea to bring Wallace's favorite band together with the popularity of NASCAR was a no-brainer, according to Danielle Randall, president of The Motorsports Decisions Group, Inc., the marketing firm which handles the Square D Racing account.
"This program has generated a lot of excitement with the employees, distributors and customers of Square D," said Randall. "It's a unique concept, and our biggest supporter during this whole effort was Kenny. His love of Aerosmith is genuine. He's a real fan."
Said Wallace, "It's like a dream come true for me to have Aerosmith on my car. I mean, what race car driver wouldn't want to have America's greatest rock band on their car? My favorite Aerosmith song is "Living on the Edge." Well, at Phoenix, I'm going to be driving on the edge."
A full-line of die-casts replicating the Aerosmith car will be manufactured by Mattel and ready for trackside purchase during the Phoenix race weekend. Fans will also be able to purchase die-casts by accessing Mattel's website at www.hotwheels.com. Additionally, souvenir apparel will be provided by Wateree, both trackside and on their website at www.watereesports.com.
Aerosmith Mention By Def Leppard
On the Def Leppard Storytellers thing on VH1 last night Joe Elliot was talking about releasing ballads as opposed to rockers for singles. He said something like:
"Yes, we'd love to see All Night (new Def Lep song) go to number one...but
you take a band like Aerosmith, and then their fans moan and groan when they
finally get there with a ballad. But the thing is, at least they're at
#1...they're still a rock band, and if that's the way a rock band has to get
to number one then we'll put ballads out..."
Anyway, I thought it was cool to see Def Leppard mention Aerosmith.
They also do a few times on their Behind The Music (which most of you
probably already know), and if you look at some of the pics from it they wear
Aero tshirts in a few shots.

Big Marley Tribute Update!
I have a big update on the upcoming Bob Marley tribute album that features
Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. The web site "Sputnik7" has
posted audio samples from the album including the Steven Tyler/Joe Perry/Bob
Marley track "Roots, Rock, Reggae." Now, it also includes a 13 minute video
of in-studio and behind the scenes video and interviews of the making of
this album. And, yes there is 2 minute segment with Steven and Joe.
Their segment starts off with Steven recording the vocals for "Roots, Rock,
Reggae." It then goes into a sit down interview with Steven and Joe. Now,
this track was recorded in Mid-January of 1999 in Joe Perry's studio [the
Boneyard]. Scott Swinsburg has transcribed the boyz part of the video:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Steven Tyler: "When we heard that Stephen (Marley) was doing this album it
was like I couldn't have asked, of all the songs on it, which song we would
like to mess around with and it was thank you lord! One more gift, one more
day of rock!"
Julian Marley: "The rock and reggae have a relationship which is
rebellious. The rebellious side. And, as you can hear in "Roots, Rock,
Reggae." That rock guitar surely goes with it. You know what I mean?"
Joe Perry: I looked at it more like jamming with them, you know? We had
gotten up on stage with them at some point in the seventies. It's probably
what it sounded like if the tape was rolling.
Steven Tyler: Bob (Marley) will always be here because of his music. He
will always be here because of the freedom that his music has given people.
And, he will always be in the room, especially when somebody get the rare
chance to sing with him on a track and have them bring in, take the tracks
out. I close my eyes and he's here."
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Now, you can see this video and hear the new Steven/Joe/Bob track on the
following site:
http://www.sputnik7.com/bobmarley/stage.html
Now, to see the video you have to click on the link at the top of the page
inside the "Chant Down Babylon" image.
Some more news from the album...it looks like from all sides that the group
"Outkast" which was supposed to do a song on the album will not be anymore.

VH1's The List
The VH1 program 'The List' just voted Run DMC's Walk This Way the second most
important moment in rock and roll history. Number one was the death of John
Lennon...
Coolio was on the panel and he said that growing up in his
neighborhood, a person would never let their friends know they listened to
rock even though he and his mother listened behind closed doors. After the
release of Run DMC's Walk This Way, listening to rock became accepted.

Black Sabbath said no to Hall Of Fame
Ozzy has said that this award means nothing for him because the voters don't know about music at all. So he doesn't want the award (if they get to be chosen). Some people think that this is because last year they were on the list and weren't chosen, so maybe he's preparing for another bad time in votation.

Steven Tyler In A Brazilian Magazine
There's a great pic of Steven in REvista da Web (Brazilian one), and an article talking about a book, "Rock stars do dumbest things" , talking about when Steven got out from reabilitation, and had forgotten the names of the Aerosmith Albums.

Island shopping
Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler and family were spotted on Nantucket this
weekend, enjoying the beautiful weather and getting in some shopping. One
stop they made was at Belle Maison, an antiques and home furnishings store on
South Water Street. In other shopping on the island Saturday, Tyler bought a
stack of books and three compilation CDs: one of great female jazz singers,
another of their male counterparts, and a third of great crooners. Looks like
Tyler has great taste in music ...

Steven Tyler on the Phone on TFI Friday (As told by Tom)
It was midnight and I had only just woken up after doing my usual Friday
trick and fallen asleep on the settee. Flicked through some channels,
stopping at Ch4's TFI Friday and I hear Chris Evan's say "Its steven Tyler
on the phone"...
The call lasted about 2 minutes and I managed to catch 1 min 20s of it on
tape. , they were joking about as usual. He said he was on a line waiting to
get in to Magic Kingdom and that he was having this conversation with Oprah
Winfrey about how to cook potato and Apple Rosti! Yes, he rang Chris to find
out whether in *Delia Smith's book it states 2 or 3 tablespoons of flour.
Chris pulls out the book which he just happened to have ready and points out
it is definetely two, Steven aknowledges he was wrong and you hear loads of
Ohhh in the backround (sounded like Tom and Joey plus female voices). Then
Chris asks him if he would like to be a millionare. Steven replies that
seeing he is worth 20 million right now that it would be a step backwards.
Chris says Love you Steven, Steven says love you Chris, and they hang up.
Pretty zany but that's how it was.

Destination Stardom - A New Talent Show
Seth reports that he has seen a commercial about a new talent show called Destination Stardom. What's Aerosmith related about it? In the promo spot there's a guy
who thinks he can sing like Steven. They have a whole band and this "dude"
is dressed in a leopard-skin suit like Steven's. From the sound of the
commercial they need to turn the echo up on his mike. Should be fun to watch.

Steven as Garth Brooks' personal model?
It's still not clear whether Brooks will wind up playing the character when
``The Lamb'' finally starts filming.
``I'm the voice and the face of the album,'' Brooks said, adding that his
personal model for the Gaines character was Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler.
``To me, the character ... hasn't been a 6-1, 225-pound guy. If I do play it,
I'm gonna need to lose an ass and a half.''
This chat transcript was found on a website about Garth Brooks:
PreppyGirl1980 asks: What made you decide to take on the role of Christopher
Gaines?
vh1_garth_brooks: I originally was going for somebody very thin and beautiful with
lots of hair to play Chris. I even made a call to Steven Tyler. It was Babyface
and Paramount Pictures that talked me into trying to develop Chris's music.
