Seventeen Magazine
In the August issue of Seventeen (Jennifer Aniston on the cover) on page
174 there's a small article called "Spotlight On...Renée Zellweger."
"When asked about the most fun she's had recently, Texas-born Renée
Zellweger doesn't mention boyfriend Jim Carrey, her Me, Myself and Irene
costar. Instead, she recalls a close encounter with her favorite rock
band: "Aerosmith sat two rows away at the Academy Awards. Everyone's like
'It's so amazing to be here,' and I'm thinking, Five years ago I had
lousy seats at their concert. Now they're right here. To me, that's
making it."
And on page 198 there's an article about the Teen Choice Awards, "Where
the Stars Are," and a picture of Steven and Joe with Jennifer Lopez.
New VH1 Show
Alex Writes: Have I got some exciting news that I have been holding off posting, cause I wasn't sure it was going to fly.
Back in April I found on the VH1 site about a new show their are having called "Sound Affects". They wanted stories from folks about how music and/or a song and/or an artist has influenced your life. I sent them my story about my daughter, Andra, and how they have influenced her life since her diagnosis of her neurological disease back in '97. They accepted our story and tomorrow VH1 will be here in Chicago filming us for the show!! They show debuts in July, and I'll let you know the air date for us!

Aerosmith singer joins Lit
AEROSMITH frontman Steven Tyler has guested on a new track by Orange County rockers Lit. The song 'Over My Head' is set to the first single and video from the soundtrack to new animated US movie 'Titan AE'.
Lit met Tyler through longtime Aerosmith producer Glen Ballard, who also handled 'Over My Head'. Says Lit bassist Jeremy Popoff: "Ballard showed up at the studio with Steven Tyler - who, to us, is an icon. We've always wanted to meet him. He came down, we ate dinner and chatted about rock'n'roll, drugs and everything else. It was an incredible night. Then he came in and did backing vocals on the song. You can defenitely hear his voice on the track. Especially if you know he's on there. If not, you'd probably think, 'Jeremy's singing really high'!"
Aerosmith are currently in the studio, working on their new, as-yet-untitled album. On the band www.aerosmith.com website, bassist Tom Hamilton says: "We're in full-on production mode and we are aroused, excited and otherwise gushing about what is coming out of the speakers at the moment."
Lit are currently on tour in the US with No Doubt.

This was in the Boston Globe this morning:
Aerosmith at the Circus
It's not as if spotting Aerosmith is like spotting Thomas Pynchon - the dudes
do live around these parts and they're not hermits. Still, we'd like to note
that singer Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry were among the throng at
last night's Hootie & the Blowfish show at the South Shore Music Circus in
Cohasset. So the Aerosmith guys are fans of Hootie? Dunno, but the opening
act, handpicked by the Hooties, is a band called Virgil Cain, and its members
are Aerosmith roadies.

Robert DeLeo writing with Aerosmith (from Yahoo!News:)
Stone Temple Pilots' Robert DeLeo Writing Songs For Ozzy and Aerosmith
(6/23/00, 10 a.m. ET) - "Personally I just got out of the studio a while back just writing some songs with Ozzy Osbourne. So I was just doing that. I've written some songs with Aerosmith and possibly with [Hole's] Courtney Love. . . It's a challenge to be able to write for someone else. It's easy to write for yourself. It's always a challenge to write for somebody else." So says Stone Temple Pilots' bassist Robert DeLeo, who shared with LAUNCH his latest spare-time activity.
DeLeo is carving out quite a niche for himself as a songwriter, believing that there may come a day when Stone Temple Pilots are finished and songwriting could become a great second career.
"I think that's what I see probably happening somewhere down the line," he said. "I hope I'm not always going to try to be in a band and be 50 years old and you know. . . the music business is really fickle."
At press time, possible release dates for DeLeo's Aerosmith and Ozzy tracks were unavailable.

More on Pope's CD World Voice 2000
The following are parts from an Article from rollingstone.com that I thought could be interesting. For the full article go to http://www.rollingstone.com/sections/home/text/default.asp
We're not sure which ones will end up on the album, but some of the stars insisted on doing a few," Garson said. "We've been going to all of the artists to tape their parts, and, of course, film them for a DVD that will be released around the same time as the album, as well as a coffee table book chronicling the sessions."
Garson said there was no set criteria in choosing artists. "I was just trying to get the best of the best, and I think I was somewhat successful,"
Garson said he was thoroughly entertained through most of the sessions, and singled out Tyler's recording as one of the standout moments. The Aerosmith singer apparently began making up his own music, and scat-sang the Pope's prayers. "'Has anyone ever sung the works of the Pope?' Steven asked me, and then he went into a two-minute song, totally made up on the spot," Garson said. "After he was finished he said, 'I'll never do that again, but do you think the Pope will like it?'"
Garson said the usually reticent Joe Perry didn't have his axe to hide behind, and instead contributed his rarely heard vocals on the prayer of his choice.
"After each session," he said, "I had each artist sign a card to the Pope, and we plan to all get together and deliver it in person."

Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Whittles Down Potential Nominee List To 31
June 22, 2000, 2:10 pm PT
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame balloting reached the semi-final stage this
week.
The 635 eligible artists have been whittled down to 31 potential nominees,
and sources say that the music industry voters have been asked to select the
final 15 to appear on the ballot from this list: AC/DC, Aerosmith, Black
Sabbath, Jackson Browne, Solomon Burke, Chicago, Dick Dale, Miles Davis, the
Dells, the Flamingos, Michael Jackson, Carole King, Kraftwerk, Brenda Lee,
Lynyrd Skynyrd, MC5, Willie Nelson, New York Dolls, the O'Jays, Gram Parsons,
Gene Pitney, Queen, Lou Reed, Bob Seger, Paul Simon, Patti Smith, Steely Dan,
the Stooges, Donna Summer, Richie Valens, and Tom Waits.
Patti Smith was actually a last minute addition. Smith, who represents the
only first-time eligible artist, was not included on the list of first-time
eligible nominees (allstar, May 16). It's possible the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame corrected it after reading about the omission in the press.
King, along with her songwriting partner/ex-husband Gerry Goffin, was
inducted as a non-performer in 1960. Burke has made the final ballot eight
times before; Pitney (six); the Flamingos (four), Black Sabbath (three),
Steely Dan, the Stooges and Richie Valens (twice each); and Aerosmith, Brenda
Lee, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the O'Jays, Queen, and Lou Reed (once each).
Previous final nominees who failed to make this ballot include Chuck Willis,
Ben E. King, Johnny Ace, Esther Phillips, Joe Tex, Mary Wells, the Dominos,
Darlene Love, and the Meters.

A few mentions of Steven Tyler
A Boston DJ was at the Red Sox v Yankees game Wednesday night, and he saw
Steven there.
On Howard Stern last night John the stutterer (not to be
confused with Stuttering John) said people tell him all the time he looks
like Steven. Howard and Robin laughed at him and told him he was crazy and
said Steven is a good looking guy and very sexy, and John is ugly. John said
Steven is ugly. They showed a clip of Steven and Teresa at the Grammy's. It
was pretty funny.
This morning on Howard Stern, they were discussing the album of the Pope's
prayers. They mentioned Steven and Joe doing one of them. They made a joke
about Steven and Joe doing a prayer, when they used to be all about sex and
drugs.

Tyler and Perry on Pope's CD-- World Voice 2000 !!
The following info was found in an article in today's Chicago Sun-Times, page 4.
Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are among the featured artists on the upcoming "World Voice 2000" record on which artists recite prayers written by Pope John Paul II.
"Steven Tyler and Joe Perry [of Aerosmith] were great. They both read a couple of prayers. At one point Steven said, `Has anyone sang any?' and he broke out into song, singing the pope's words."
"World Voice 2000" will be released in September on Columbia Records. The CD will contain about 30 readings, and it will be produced in English, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. Some proceeds from sales of "World Voice 2000" will provide economic assistance for the continuation of the Vatican's International orphanage program.

Small things on MTV
Sander van Dalen reports: I was watching MTV this morning when '3 of 1' was on and Aerosmith was the featured band. I missed the first song but the second and third were Pink and I Don't Want To Miss A Thing.
Later, during the commercials, there was a clip about the theme of next weekend. They made a mistake. While you saw Joe Perry playing guitar they said: "You can also play along with Slash (from Guns 'n Roses)". Just a small thing but a big mistake.

Aerosmith Blues Tribute Album
A girl who was working the Blues Fest in Chicago recently gave a heads up on an upcoming Aerosmith blues tribute album. She had the opportunity to interview the oldest living blues legend, Pinetop Perkins, age
87. He mentioned that he had just been in L.A. laying down some vocals for "Walk This Way". And he had nothing but good things to say about our Boys! How cool is that?

Joe Perry on a country album!! (Eli Zoske Reports...)
I've never heard anything about this, but I'm 20 and work at a country
radio station and last night at work I was bored (naturally) and I was
reading the CD liner notes of Yankee Grey's new and only album "Untamed"
and I noticed "Joe Perry appears courtesy of Columbia Records."
I looked closer and saw that he played slide guitar on the currently unreleased
track "Tell Me Something I Didn't Know". Then in the thank you's,
keyboardist Jerry Hughes thanked "...,Joe and Billy Perry,..." Then, I
knew that it had to be him (even though Billie's name is misspelled). I
listened to the song and you can definitely hear Joe's guitar stylings
on it. It's just very basic riffs repeated over and over. There are a
couple of spots that they let him loose a little bit, and at the very end,
you can definitely hear Joe's "voice".
This is from Amazon.com: Yankee Grey, with their layered vocals and tight instrumental approach, can't decide if they want to be Restless Heart, Boston, or Exile, with a Charlie Daniels-like boogie and fiddle flourish. [ Buy This album ]
My opinion, first of all I was surprised that they got Joe to do that,
, second of all, for a country song, it actually almost rocks. I know that's hard to say for a long time Aero fan, but Yankee Grey isn't a bad sounding band.
Does anyone know who Jerry Hughes is and what his connection with Joe is (if any)? Please E-mail me if you do!

Liv Tyler in Russia
Kostya Ryzhov reports: Remember, last summer i told you about Liv Tyler's visit in St. Peterburg, Russia. She took part of the first european show of Onegin, a movie based on the Novel of the russian poet Pushkin. There was TV first show of this film last week. The Pushkin's masterpiece is a Novel of poems. In the book all heroes are speaking in poems with each other. But it was very difficult to translate all monologues on English with the rhymes preservation. So there was only one episode with poems translation. That was Tatiana's(Liv Tyler) love letter to Onegin(Raif Fains). Onegin was reading the letter and there were original poems.

About the Reflections benefit, and Joe Perry at KISS concert
The Boston Herald
Inside Track
by Gayle Fee & Laura Reposa
Thursday June 15, 2000
Aerosmith main man Steven Tyler, and '60 Minutes II' funnyman Jimmy Tingle -
just a couple of guys who have seen the light - brightened up the place the
other night at the Victory Program's sold-out fund-raiser at the Sheraton
Boston. Tyler not only sang 'Amazing Grace,' but after he heard that his
stickman, Joey Kramer, donated $100,000 to the drug and alcohol abuse
program's building campaign, the rocker whipped out his checkbook and wrote
another $100,000 check. Which everyone thought was totally Amazing. (Herald

While the other Aerosmithians were delivering $100,000 wet kisses at the
Victory Program the other night, axman Joe Perry, wife Billie and the kids
were rockin' at the KISS show at the Tweeter Center. But they didn't Rock
'n' Roll All Night. The Perrys left halfway through the show.

Elnhil reports more about Reflections 2000 benefit
It was a benefit as you know.
So, Mary Richardson (a local Boston News person hosted) Mayor of Boston
spoke, Jimmy Tingle a comedian spoke and a New Age author Marianne Williamson
spoke. Steven sang at the end of the night. One song. Only Amazing Grace. It
was unreal!!! Wished I had taped it.(Standing Ovation)
It was really about Recovery not so much Aerosmith. So, Steven and Joey were
just there supporting the cause. I also said hi to Joey. Very nice. He and Steven both donated
100,000 dollars each to this Victory Program. Victory Programs is housing for
recovering alcohol and substance abuse victims. They also support aids and
hiv. (There are I think 12 or so Victory Houses in the Boston area.) It was a great time.
I was really floored by Steven's extraordinary presence and patience and
kindness towards his fans. I kind of stood back and watched and he barely had
time to eat his own dinner because fans were all over him. He was gracious.
I actually got three autographs.(huge fan!!!)

I was honored to met Steven Tyler. He was friendly and charming. He was
very attentive and gracious to all his fans. People were lined up all night
for autographs and pics . He signed every one and never turned a person away.
In between signing and pics he hugged or kissed his wife Theresa.
He sang Amazing Grace at the end of the night. It was absolutely
breathtaking!!!!
Then stayed on to sign for at least 45 mins after the show.
He is an Amazing person!!!!

Rockers roll as gig hits sour note
by Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa
Sunday, June 11, 2000
Departing WZLX-FM classic rocker Charles Laquidara almost pulled together the
ultimate parting gift for his longtime listeners: a concert featuring
Aerosmith, the J. Geils Band and Boston at the FleetCenter.
Laquidara said the star-studded show of local rock legends which he was
calling ``Boston Rocks'' would have been a benefit for the Franciscan
Children's Hospital, his fave charity.
``It would have been a thank-you show from the groups of Boston to the people
of Boston,'' said the DJ who bids aloha to his 'ZLX morning shift this fall.
``And my way of saying thank you.''
And what, pray tell, were you going to bring to the table, Don Ho???
``I was going to emcee it,'' he said.
OK.
Anyway, Charles claims the FleetCenter cheeses agreed to host the bash on
June 30 and promoter Don Law agreed to pitch in. And, more importantly, he
had scored commitments from the bands.
But of course the whole shebang blew up because - would you believe? - Boston
frontman Tom Scholz opted out because he was working on an album.
Excuse us, but isn't Aerosmith working on an album???? Apparently, an
Aerosmith/Geils double bill wasn't good enough for Charles!
``I just can't do a show called `Boston Rocks' without (the band) Boston,''
said Laquidara. ``It was so close to being a done deal I could taste it.''
So chew on that.

All Saints do Walk This Way
Yes, it's true (no!!!!), in this month's Q they interviewed All Saints and
asked them what to expect from their performance. They said:
'We do a version of the old Aerosmith/Run DMC track, Walk This Way, where we
dress up in gold chains and stuff. That always goes down a storm.'
Bluegrass tributes...
I just found out there's a whole series of 'Pickin On' albums. They feature the artists songs in a country/bluegrass style.
Others who has been slaughtered on Pickin' on-albums include Jimi Hendrix, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Santana, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Creedence Clearwater Revival, ZZ Top, Tom Petty, The Beatles and The Grateful Dead
My own opinion:
This is horrible! I went to CDNOW and listened to some of the songs
from the other so called "tributes". They have slaughtered songs by
Hendrix, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Clapton, Creedence, ZZ Top, Dylan etc etc.
These things shouldn't be legal! It doesn't sound anything like the real
songs. I almost can't even hear that these clips are supposed to be
covers of these classic songs... Don't buy this crap whatever you do!
I'm one of those who wants to own everything Aerosmith-related but
I sure wont buy this shit...
