For more information about Joey's accident when his car caught fire at an gas station on Wednesday read the articles from these news papers- Boston Herald, Friday, July 17, 1998
Aerosmith star injured as car bursts into flames
By Lauren Beckham Falcone
Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer thanked a guardian angel for helping him
escape death after his Ferrari burst into flames at a Scituate gas station
early Wednesday night.
“Definitely somebody is looking out for me up there, and I’m grateful to
him,” he told reporters yesterday.
Kramer, 48, who lives in Marshfield, was sitting in his 1998 Ferrari 355 at
Scarsilloni’s Sunoco on Route 3A in Scituate about 6 p.m. when the car sudde
nly erupted into flames.
“From the time I pulled up to the pump to the time
of the fire was only about 10 seconds,” he said.
“I was sitting in my car, I looked down into my wallet to get my credit
card, I looked up, and the car was engulfed in flames. My only thought was
to get out!” he said.
The musician leaped out of the blazing sportscar, but not before fire
singed his hair, face, arm and legs. A quick-thinking 16-year old gas
attendant pulled him away from the burning vehicle.
“The only way I could get out was through the flames,” said Kramer, who was
treated for second-degree burns at South Shore Hospital [in Weymouth]
Wednesday night and later released.
His left arm, from hand to elbow, is
swollen and bandaged as well as his lower right leg and most of his left
leg. “My left arm got burned because I put it up to protect my head. I can’t
really move those fingers right now. The bandages have to be changed twice a
day, other than that all I can do is wait to see how I heal,” he said.
Aerosmith spokeswomen Luke Burland said the drummer was “doing well and the
show will go on,” meaning the injuries won’t hinder the re-start of the band
’s Nine Lives tour, starting in Raleigh, N.C. Aug. 14. “I don’t think there
will be any change in plan as far at the tour schedule, if anything it will
only be pushed back a week. The doctors will be able to give me a better
idea in about a week when the swelling goes down and they can see how well
the burns are healing. This band’s been though so much shit, it’s going to
take more than this to bring us down,” he said.
They’re scheduled to play at Great Woods in Mansfield Aug. 20.
No foul play is suspected, but the state fire marshal’s office is
investigating how gas pooled under the car and what caused it to ignite.
Roger Andrey, owner of Gaston Andrey Ferrari of Boston, said Ferrari has
had trouble with car fuel lines in the past, but it was “premature to make
any kind of conclusion about what happened.”
“The cars are fabulous,” he said. “They really are very good cars. Thank
God he wasn’t hurt too badly.”
Kramer said, “Yes, I went to church a few days ago. No, I was not smoking
in the car; I don’t smoke. I’m definitely going to look into why my car
caught fire. You don’t expect a one-hundred-fifty-thousand-dollar car to
burst into flames. If they’re at fault, Ferrari will be hearing from me.
Also I want to get the word out to people that in Massachusetts Full Serve
Pumps are not required to have a foam extinguishing system. Only Self Serve
Pumps do, and that needs to be changed. I’ll be looking into ways of getting
those laws changed.”
[When asked if he was going to get another Ferrari he said, “Well I’ve had
four and they’ve all ended up pretty much like this one. I guess the writing
’s on the wall about that.”
Kramer isn’t the only injured member of Aerosmith. Singer Steven Tyler
recently underwent knee surgery after he whacked his knee with a microphone
stand during a concert in Alaska.

cushions), rug and plastic, etc. were incinerated]

Gasoline leak eyed in car fire that injured Aerosmith's drummer
By Stephen Kiehl, Globe correspondent
The investigation into the cause of a car fire that injured Aerosmith
drummer Joey Kramer in Scituate Wednesday night focused yesterday on a pool
of gasoline that witnesses saw underneath the car before the fire: how it
got there and how it was ignited.
Kramer, 46, suffered second-degree burns on his left arm and minor burns on
his legs. He was pulled from his burning 1998 Ferrari by an attendant at
Scarsillino's Sunoco on Route 3A.
Kramer was sitting in the driver's seat
when the flames engulfed the car. He was released after treatment at South
Shore Hospital in Weymouth.
Kramer could not be reached for comment yesterday.
The gasoline may have leaked from a ruptured fuel line or a faulty gasoline
pump, said fire officials. The tip of the nozzle of the gasoline hose
snapped off inside the fuel tank of Kramer's Ferrari.
The fumes from the pool of gasoline may have been ignited by the intense,
1,500-degree heat generated by the car's catalytic converters, authorities
said.
Investigators also said yesterday that the car was running while the
gasoline tank was being filled, which is illegal and increases the chance of
fire. The engine in the Ferrari is in the middle of the car, near the
gasoline tank.
"If the fuel line had lost its integrity and the product leaking our of the
fuel line puddled underneath the car and came in contact with hot engine
parts, there is the potential of fire," said Scituate Deputy Fire Chief
Charles Curran.
The fire, which produced flames that reached 15 feet, destroyed the car and
damaged a gasoline pump.
The owner of the station, Gerald Gorman, said the pump was in good
condition and that it had serviced "thousands" of cars without incident.
Making sure that a motorist shuts off his car engine while fueling is the
responsibility of a gasoline station owner.
Gorman said he did not know whether the Ferrari's engine was running when
it was being fueled. Investigators said they have not decided whether to
press the issue.
An Aerosmith spokeswoman said Kramer is resting at his home in Marshfield
Hills with his wife. An Aerosmith tour will go forward as scheduled later
this summer, including an Aug. 20 show at Great Woods.

- Joey Kramer Hurt in Fire
Very sad news...Joey Kramer has been burned while he was getting his car fueled up at a gas station. When an
attendant was pumping gas into his car flames started. Joey got
out of his car sheilding his face from the flames with his arms. he has severe burns
on his arm and leg but it's been
reported that he's been released from the hospital and is now at home. Joey's wife (April Kramer) says that he's not concerned about not making
shows....meaning they will be playing their shows as

I'm sorry...I wrote that the "The Midnight Special" starts at "2:30 P.M."!
The REAL time is on
Friday night, July 17th, 1998 at 2:30 A.M. Eastern US time. The reason tvguide.com
lists "The Midnight Special" on 1:00 A.M. is because VH-1 now shows 4

- "The Midnight Special"
"The Midnight Special" episode with
Aerosmith is going to be broadcast on VH-1 on Friday, July 17th 1998 @
2:30 P.M. This is the episode where Aerosmith performs "Train Kept
A Rollin' !" And the one where the boyz are really drunk! As Tom
Hamilton wrote in "Walk This Way: The Autobiography Of Aerosmith" on
pages 220-221:
"At the end of June [1974], we flew to Los Angeles to tape "The Midnight
Special", an early rock concert show broadcast on NBC at 1 A.M. on
Friday nights. We got up before dawn so we could be as loaded on Jack
Daniel's to play "Train [Kept A Rollin']" at the 10 A.M. taping as we
were for a regular 9 P.M. show. I never drank during the day and we
really sucked. (Little Richard was the host, Wolfman Jack was the
announcer, and we were on with Kool and the Gang, Golden Earring, and
David Clayton-Thomas. The show was broadcast on August 16th, 1974.)"
So I guess this is the first showing of their performance in 24 years!!!
Here's the set list for this half-hour show VH-1 has listed on their web site:
1} Little Richard "The Midnight Special"
2} Little Richard "Ooh Poo Pah Doo"
3} Aerosmith - "Train Kept a Rollin"

HE EVEN WALKS THIS WAY
A crew from MTV was in town yesterday filming an upcoming episode of
"FANatic", the new show that brings an overboard fan together with a favorite
celebrity. Yesterday MTV flew Aerosmith fan Chris Kopchak (AKA SteveTy5) from Boca Raton,
Fla., to chat with Steven Tyler at Mama Kin. Kopchak, a 21-year-old college
student, owns a collection of the band's bootlegs dating to 1973, posts their
lyrics on his ceiling, and credits the song "Amazing" with turning his life

- Liv + Bruce = "Total Bullshit"!
Liv, did not cause the break-up between Bruce Willis and Demi
Moore. The young actress is not romantically involved with Willis, her
co-star in the summer blockbuster Armageddon, contrary to recent gossip.
Some of the more vicious rumors, in fact, have gone so far as to say Demi
gave her husband the boot after she found him with Liv in a uncompromising
position at the Willis-Moore compound in Idaho.
"It's total bullshit" says a reliable source. "Not only is Liv still with
Jauquin Phoenix, she wouldn't date Bruce because she doesn't like older
men. Besides," claimed the source, "she wouldn't want to piss off her dad."......... Isn't That Cute : )

- 50 North American Dates Announced (LONG)
NEW YORK, July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- After a three month break from the road,
America's premier rock band, Aerosmith, will return to the United States on
August 14 for a seventeen week run of dates that will include 26 outdoor
summer concerts, followed by a further seven weeks of indoor shows. Taking in
50 cities across 22 of the country's Mid-West, Eastern and Southern states,
together with three stops in Canada, this latest leg of the 'Nine Lives' World
Tour will include all of the 18 shows that were postponed when singer Steven
Tyler injured his knee at the end of April.
Kicking off at the Walnut Creek Amphitheater in Raleigh, NC and finishing up
some four months later in Louisville, KY, the band's already-year-long tour
(which was launched last May in support of their multi-platinum album 'Nine
Lives', - Columbia Records), has been hailed by critics across the country as
their best ever.
Following hot on the heels of the release of their hit single 'I Don't Want To
Miss A Thing' (from the upcoming blockbuster Touchstone Pictures, movie
release 'Armageddon' - July 1), the 50 new dates will take the band's audience
figures for the 'Nine Lives' world tour to well over 2.5 million, at 169 shows
across three continents. Highlights of this spectacular run include headline
slots at a series of prestigious festivals in Europe, two capacity New Year's
Eve shows in their home-town of Boston, a special anniversary concert
celebrating 20 years of sold-out shows at New York's Madison Square Garden and
a record-breaking stadium tour of Japan, which marked the first time that an
international act has ever been able to complete a sold out dome tour of the
country.
On stage for more than two hours each night, the five original band members
(Steven Tyler - vocals, Joe Perry - guitars, Tom Hamilton - bass, Brad
Whitford - guitars, Joey Kramer - drums) are performing better than ever
before, playing songs that span their rich and controversial career.
What the papers are saying:
"With a band like Aerosmith everybody is able to enjoy the show... it is an
experience that empowers the soul." (Moscow Pullman Daily News; Idaho)
"After twenty years, Band's got 'What It Takes'. Steven Tyler, Joe Perry,
Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer show up to play - and by the time
their two-hour show came to a close, they had pretty much blown the roof off
the joint." (Muskegon Chronicle; MI)
"I have been to several different rock concerts, but nothing had prepared me
for the adrenaline-pumping rock and roll bomb blast that I witnessed in
Charleston Friday night... The roar of the crowd and the excitement raged on
for over two hours as Aerosmith rocked the city." (Webster Echo; Webster
Springs, WV)
"Led by the forever young Steven Tyler, the crowd was treated to more than two
hours of Aerosmith, complete with over-the-top staging, high drama and high
jinks." (Kalamzaoo Gazette; MI)
"Perry's rifts were as smooth and well-rehearsed as if crunching from the
album, yet his years of experience made it look as easy as walking a dog."
