1998 - The Year In Review

1. Aerosmith was nominated for 2 Grammy Awards..."Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal" and "Best Rock Album."
2. "Taste Of India'' was released to radio.
3. Aerosmith won a Boston music award for "Outstanding Rock Band" and Steven Tyler won for "Outstanding Male Vocalist."
4. Aerosmith plays 15 full shows.

1. "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" was broadcast on the VH-1 network on Friday, February 6th.
2. Steven Tyler filmed a part in the [yet to be released] movie "Goodnight Joseph Parker."
3. Steven Tyler records "I Love Trash" for an album called "Elmopalooza."
4. Steven Tyler also began work on the Ringo Starr album "Vertical Man."
5. "Pink" is released as the third and final single off of "Nine Lives" on Tuesday, February 10th...it debuts at #36 and is the most successful single off of the album.
6. Aerosmith cancel the 2/15/98 show at the Ervin J. Nutter Center at Wright State University Dayton, Ohio because Steven Tyler was diagnosed with "viral laryngitis"
7. Steven Tyler is seen back on stage just a few days later singing with country singer Dwight Yoakam at the House Of Blues on the Sunset Strip.
8. Aerosmith loses both Grammy's....One to "The Wallflowers" and one to John Fogerty.
9. Brad Whitford turned 46 on Monday, February 23rd.
10. Aerosmith plays 5 full shows and then the "Nine Lives Tour" goes on a 2 month break.

1. The "Elmopalooza" CD is released [on Tuesday, March 3rd] and includes the Steven Tyler solo track "I Love Trash."
2. Richie Sambora's album "Undiscovered Soul" is released [also on Tuesday, March 3rd] and includes Steven Tyler playing Harmonica on the track "If God Was A Woman."
3. Aerosmith win a Blockbuster award for "Best Classic Rock Group."
4. Steven Tyler turned 50 on Thursday, March 26th.

1. Aerosmith's involvement in the "Armageddon" Soundtrack is announced.
2. Aerosmith perform "Pink" on "The Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards" on Saturday, April 4th and receive the "Rosie's Choice Award."
3. Aerosmith play the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage, Alaska on Wednesday, April 29th and during the encore performance of "Mama Kin"...Steven Tyler injured his knee and required surgery...so 14 U.S. shows were postponed and it's 20-show European Summer Tour was Canceled.

2. Steven Tyler has knee surgery.

5. Steven Tyler loses to Mick Jagger in a "Celebrity Deathmatch" on MTV on Thursday, May 28th.

1. "Nine Lives" was certified Double Platinum on Monday, June 8th.
2. Ringo Starr's album "Vertical Man" is released [on Wednesday, June 17th] and includes Steven Tyler performing on five songs.
3. A 15 year old drug charge was finally cleared from Steven Tyler's record.

7. Columbia Records repackaged and re-released Aerosmith's first three albums [Aerosmith, Get Your Wings and Toys in the Attic] as a slip-cased box set on Tuesday, June 30th.

1. Aerosmith announce a 50 show North American tour.
2. The VH-1 network airs an almost 20 year performance of Aerosmith playing "Come Together" on the show "The Midnight Special" on Saturday, July 11th.
3. MTV airs a half hour special on Steven Tyler called "BIOrhythm" on Tuesday, July 14th.
4. Aerosmith receives 4 MTV Video Music Award nominations...2 for "Pink" and 2 for "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing."
5. Joey Kramer's hair was singed & he received second degree burns on both legs, and his left arm and hand at a gas station in Scituate, Massachusetts when his Ferrari caught on fire on Wednesday, July 15th. Forcing the band to postpone 12 shows and cancel 2.
6. The VH-1 network airs a 23 year old performance of Aerosmith playing "Train Kept A Rollin' " on the show "The Midnight Special" on Saturday, July 18th.
7. The "Armageddon" soundtrack was certified Platinum on Tuesday, July 21st.
8. The "Armageddon" soundtrack was certified Double Platinum on Tuesday, July 28th.
9. MTV airs a show called "FANatic" in which "SteveTy5" himself interviewed Steven Tyler on Tuesday, July 28th.
10. NBC announces that Joe Perry will make his T.V. acting debut on an episode of "Homicide: Life On The Streets."

1. Jerry Loftis [who was in Aerosmith's "Amazing" video] was killed on Friday, August 14th when he fell to his death when his parachute failed to open properly, he was 29.
2. Billboard Magazine's [Saturday, Aug 15th] issue includes an Aerosmith special with loads of pages, stories, photos, interviews and a tribute to the band from industry people.
3. The "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" single is released [on Tuesday, August 18th] and debuts and Number One...becoming Aerosmith's first #1 single ever!
4. Geffen Records releases the "A Little South Of Sanity" track listing.
5. Steven Tyler's ex-wife Cyrinda goes to the New York Post and says that she is going to release pornographic pictures of Steven and herself with the paperback version of her tell-all book "Dream On."

1. Columbia Records releases two Aerosmith live albums..."Classics Live" and "Classics Live 2" together as "Classics Live Complete" overseas.
2. Aerosmith re-start their "Nine Lives" tour playing it's first full show in over four months at The Montage Mountain Amphitheater in Scranton, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, September 9th.
3. The "Armageddon" soundtrack was certified Triple Platinum on Wednesday, September 9th.
4. Aerosmith win two out of four MTV Video Music Awards...the other two go to Madonna. Aerosmith do an interview before the show, accept both awards live, and Steven Tyler and Joe Perry help hand out the Viewer's Choice Award.
5. Joe Perry turned 48 on Thursday, September 10th.
6. The "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" single becomes only the forth Aerosmith single to go gold on Tuesday, September 12th.
7. Steven Tyler threw out the first pitch at a St. Louis Cardinals game on Thursday, September 24th.

1. Aerosmith is nominated for "Best Rock Act" at The MTV European Music Awards.
2. Aerosmith is nominated for "Best Hard Rock/Metal Clip" for their "Pink" video at The Billboard Music Video Awards.
3. Joe Perry's guest appearance on the NBC cop show "Homicide: Life On The Streets" airs on Friday, October 16th.
4. Aerosmith "webcast" their show at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey on Saturday, October 17th and over 120,000 people download it...making it the largest single artist webcast since the medium's inception!
5. Aerosmith "Nine Lives Tour" came to an end on Saturday, October 17th at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey ending the tour that officially started on Thursday, May 8th, 1997!
6. Aerosmith began it's "A Little South Of Sanity" tour at the Centre Molson in Montreal, Quebec on Tuesday, October 20th.
7. Aerosmith cancel a January, 1999 concert [in Tupelo, MS] because it is announced that Steven Tyler needs additional knee surgery in "early '99."
8. Aerosmith release it's forth live album "A Little South Of Sanity" on Tuesday, October 20th and it debuts at number 12 on the charts.
9. Steven Tyler and Joe Perry present an award at the 1998 VH-1 Fashion Awards on Tuesday, October 27th.

1. Aerosmith join Cheap Trick on stage on Friday, November 6th in Minneapolis, Minnesota for "Train Kept A Rollin' ".
2. Aerosmith win a MTV Europe Music Award for "Best Rock Act" and accept the award via a video-message.
3. Aerosmith are invited to perform at the January 1999 inauguration for Governor of Minnesota and turn down the offer...Johnny Lang takes their place.
